Mexico's INE launches civic education program for citizens abroad
The National Electoral Institute (INE) has initiated the first session of the Training Workshop for Promoters of Civic Education Abroad (FOPEME). The program aims to strengthen civic culture and the exercise of political-electoral rights among the Mexican diaspora.
More than 115 participants joined the remote session from various Mexican states, including Sinaloa, Zacatecas, and Veracruz. The initiative seeks to train individuals capable of promoting democratic culture and citizen participation within their communities, allowing them to share this knowledge with family members living abroad.
Data presented during the training indicates that approximately 12.3 million Mexicans reside outside the country, with roughly 11.9 million living in the United States. The program also addresses the challenges faced by the approximately 4.1 million undocumented Mexicans in the U.S., emphasizing the importance of understanding institutions and mechanisms available for their protection.
