Mexico's INE implements key appointments and regulations for 2026-2027 elections
The National Electoral Institute (INE) and various local electoral bodies in Mexico are implementing several administrative and regulatory measures ahead of the 2026-2027 electoral cycle.
Key appointments include Ernesto Santana Bracamontes as President of the IEPC Jalisco and Marisa Arlene Cabral Porchas as Executive Vocal in Sonora. Additionally, Christian Viviana Escobedo Loya was named Executive Vocal for Coahuila, and Patricia Santos Quevedo was confirmed for San Luis Potosí.
In Quintana Roo, the IEQROO approved campaign spending caps of approximately $40.6 million for the gubernatorial race and $8.1 million for precampaigns. In Chihuahua, the IEE established an electoral calendar consisting of 495 activities, with the election scheduled for June 6, 2027.
Regarding oversight, the INE has reinforced restrictions on electoral observers following a TEPJF ruling, prohibiting 'servidores de la nación' from serving in this capacity to maintain impartiality. Meanwhile, the SOMOS party has formally requested an audit of Morena's spending regarding alleged early campaigning activities. Finally, the IETAM in Tamaulipas is currently vetting 1,694 applicants for municipal and district council positions to ensure compliance with legal requirements, including checks for public office status and child support debt.
