Mexico's INE officially launches 2027 electoral process

The National Electoral Institute (INE) has officially launched the 2027 electoral process in Mexico. This cycle involves the renewal of over 20,000 elected positions, including the Union Congress, governorships, local legislatures, and municipal authorities.

In Veracruz, the process includes the renewal of federal deputies and 50 members of the Local Congress. As part of the preparations, the INE in Veracruz destroyed over 70,000 voter ID cards that were uncollected or returned. The institute has also approved a directory of Citizen Service Modules to support the Intense Annual Campaign, which runs from September 1 until January 25, 2027. This campaign utilizes 68 modules, including fixed, semi-fixed, and mobile units, some of which operate double shifts to increase accessibility.

Amidst the formal start, political tensions have emerged regarding early campaigning. Reports indicate a controversy involving Morena president Ariadna Montiel and PRI leader Alejandro Moreno, following the circulation of images of campaign-related materials during an INE session. While the INE has not yet issued a formal resolution regarding these incidents, the event has sparked debate over the timing of political activities and the role of digital media in reporting electoral conduct.
