Mexico's INE to decide registration of new national political parties

Mexico's electoral institute (INE) is set to make a first‑stage decision on which of five applicant groups will receive registration as new national political parties. The review will determine which organizations meet membership thresholds and procedural requirements for official party status.

Among the applicants, the Construyendo Sociedades en Paz (CSP) party, claiming about 336,000 affiliates, appears to have the strongest chance, while other groups such as México Tiene Vida, Somos México and Que Siga la Democracia face doubts over verified membership numbers and alleged irregularities. If approved, the new parties could contest elections starting in July, but must later meet a 3 % vote share threshold to retain registration for the 2027 cycle.

The outcome will shape Mexico’s party landscape, potentially increasing the number of registered parties from the current six to up to ten, and will be scrutinized for compliance with funding and foreign‑influence regulations.
