Mexico's INE warns of CNBV delays as Chile's CMF meets fintech firms

The National Electoral Institute (INE) in Mexico has highlighted a persistent pattern of slow responses by the National Banking and Securities Commission (CNBV) to requests for financial information. Only about three percent of the INE’s inquiries were answered within the statutory deadline in 2025, a figure that fell further in 2026, raising concerns about the ability to scrutinise the finances of political parties, pre‑candidates and candidates ahead of upcoming elections.

In Chile, the Commission for the Financial Market (CMF) conducted a series of meetings under the country's Lobby Law with senior executives from companies such as Mercado Libre, Copec, MetLife and others. The discussions focused on the regulatory impact of the Fintech Law, the development of digital payment services, and the progress of projects like the Shinkansen clearing‑house and the REPO market, aiming to align business strategies with current financial‑sector regulations.
