Dominican Republic: 56,000 citizens cleared of migration alerts

The Dominican Republic's Attorney General's Office (PGR) has ordered the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) to lift exit impediments and migration alerts that lack judicial support. This initiative follows a six-month audit by a technical committee composed of representatives from the Public Ministry and Migration, which reviewed data accumulated since 1990.

The cleanup process has already benefited 56,140 citizens, restoring their right to international travel. The audit identified thousands of records that remained active due to administrative errors, completed judicial proceedings, or historical data that failed to properly identify individuals.

Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso instructed Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, Director of Migration, to prioritize the removal of three types of records: individualized entries without a legal basis, non-individualized historical records, and those whose legal purposes have already been fulfilled. A new interoperability system to manage these restrictions is expected to be operational by December 2026.
