Mexico's INE registers new parties and expands 2027 election preparations

The National Electoral Institute (INE) issued official registration certificates to the new national parties Somos México and Paz, allowing them to contest the 2027 general elections. The institute handed over office space, equipment and allocated at least MXN 73.68 million in prerogative funds and MXN 3.32 million for specific activities to each party. INE also prepared logistical measures for the 2027 vote, proposing the use of 1,000 ballots per special polling station for voters in transit and adopting a single‑polling‑station model to hold federal and local elections concurrently.

State electoral bodies are following suit. The State Electoral Institute of Mexico‑State (IEEM) approved MXN 20 million in public funding for the new local party Podemos despite incomplete registration, and announced the expansion of its General Council from seven to ten seats to include the newly‑registered parties Somos México, Paz and Podemos, raising the number of candidacies for 2027.

INE introduced an inclusion protocol for sexual diversity, requiring staff to ask for preferred name and gender and permitting non‑binary, indigenous or Afro‑Mexican identifiers on voter IDs. The new voter credential incorporates enhanced security features—micro‑texts, holograms, QR codes, tactile elements for low‑vision users—and the option to record gender as M, H or No Binario.

Additional INE activities include hiring five administrative positions in the State of Mexico with salaries up to MXN 18,000, document‑administration reviews in Hidalgo, regular credential deliveries in Tlaxcala, and a nationwide audio capsule summarising INE actions across the 32 states. Several new local parties have also been registered in Chiapas, Jalisco and Veracruz, some subject to conditional compliance.
