Mexico's La Gran Escapada 2026 tourism drive yields 1.8 bn pesos boost in Morelos and Michoacán

The federal "La Gran Escapada 2026" campaign, dubbed the Buen Fin del Turismo, ran from 18–21 June to stimulate domestic travel, local consumption and discount‑driven offers across all 32 Mexican states.

In the state of Morelos, 117 tourism businesses – mainly hotels, restaurants and event venues – participated, generating an estimated economic impact of 624 million pesos. The municipalities of Cuernavaca, Tepoztlán and Jojutla led the activity, with nature‑adventure, family and health‑wellness segments most popular. Discounts ranged from 15‑60 percent. State tourism secretary Daniel Altafi Valladares said, "When we combine efforts with the sector we generate more opportunities to attract visitors and strengthen services for families across the state."

Michoacán reported a larger contribution, with 604 establishments delivering a 1.21 billion‑peso boost. Morelia, Lázaro Cárdenas and Zamora were the top municipalities. Travel agencies, lodging and food‑beverage services accounted for most sales, while nature‑adventure, sun‑beach and community tourism attracted travelers. About 68 percent of transactions were hybrid (online + in‑person), 30 percent physical only and 2 percent online.

Nationally, the initiative involved 6,557 establishments, offered 114,000 tourism experiences and produced a total economic impact of roughly 44 billion pesos – a 10 percent rise over the previous edition. The campaign was coordinated by President Claudia Sheinbaum, the federal tourism secretariat, state tourism offices, Profeco and industry bodies such as Concanaco Servytur.
