Mexican municipal programs boost school inclusion and student mobility

In the city of Chihuahua, the municipal government’s Department of Attention to Vulnerable Groups organized inclusion activities at Miguel Ahumada Primary School. Students with visual impairments, like Victoria, took part in goalball games and a sensory tunnel, allowing classmates to experience daily life through touch and fostering empathy and respect. The school’s director praised the collaboration, noting the events help “break social barriers and strengthen respect for diversity.”

In Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, the state’s “Bicis que Transforman” initiative handed out bicycles to 254 secondary‑school students at Telesecundaria No. 122. Officials said the bikes provide a safe, sustainable means of transport, lower family travel costs and encourage continued school attendance. Program leader Paco Chacón said each bicycle is “an opportunity for young people to keep studying and pedal toward their goals.”
