Mexico's Ministry of Health awards 84 billion pesos for 2027-2028 medical supplies

Mexico’s Ministry of Health has concluded a consolidated procurement process for medicines and health supplies for the 2027-2028 period. The investment totals approximately 84 billion pesos, covering the acquisition of 3.2 billion units.

This procurement strategy aims to ensure a steady supply of medical resources for federal public hospitals, clinics, and medical units. The process involved the analysis of more than 5,400 product codes through 31 clinical specialty tables and 54 technical tables involving health authorities and providers. Birmex is participating as the consolidating entity for these acquisition procedures.

Notably, the Ministry reported that approximately 15 percent of the product codes included in this stage were not awarded. These remaining items will be addressed through an additional contracting procedure to be completed before the end of 2026.

The Ministry also highlighted an increase in the participation of national suppliers. Compared to the previous year, the value assigned to Mexican companies rose by 127 percent, while the volume of pieces increased by 67 percent, all without increasing the overall cost of the purchase.
