Mexico's Missing Persons Crisis Spotlighted Ahead of 2026 World Cup

The activist collective Fuerzas Unidas por Nuestros Desaparecidos (Fundenl) released a multilingual video campaign in ten languages, asking "¿Dónde están?" to draw global attention to the estimated 133,000 missing persons in Mexico ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The video features participants speaking their own language while wearing their national team shirts, and the group emphasized, "Diferentes idiomas, pero el mismo dolor."

Separately, the Glorieta de las y los Desaparecidos announced a series of peaceful marches on 10‑11 June 2026 to the Estadio Ciudad de México, the Zócalo and the Ángel de la Independencia. The demonstrators aim to confront what they describe as a "simulación" by the government and seek a meeting with President Claudia Sheinbaum, urging her to "tenga tiempo de recibirnos" during the tournament's opening match.
