Mexico's Morelos and Puebla states move to replace detained mayors and review revocation requests

In Morelos, Secretary of Government Edgar Maldonado said the substitute mayors of Cuautla and Atlatlahucan could be sworn in as full municipal heads before the constitutional 90‑day limit expires. The move follows the arrest of the elected mayors during the federal "Enjambre" operation, with legal proceedings already underway and interim officials limited to temporary duties.

In Puebla, the state Congress, led by Pável Gaspar Ramírez, will examine petitions from the councils of Acatlán de Osorio and Zapotitlán de Méndez that seek to revoke their mayors' mandates over alleged irregularities. The legislature will assess the documentation, guarantee due process, and the Governance and Constitutional Points Commission will draft recommendations for the full chamber's consideration.
