Mexico's municipalities and universities boost public worker training

The municipal government of Guadalupe in Zacatecas signed a formal agreement with the Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas (UAZ) to allow municipal employees to enroll in a Licenciatura in Cultural Studies through the university’s History unit. The initiative, highlighted by municipal Syndic Analí Infante, aims to professionalize staff and strengthen tourism promotion in the town.

Separately, Juan Carlos Arredondo Hernández, rector of the Universidad Autónoma de Aguascalientes, noted that a university degree no longer guarantees employment, with only about 60 % of graduates securing appropriate jobs. The university will expand competency‑certification programs and is negotiating a partnership with a U.S. university to provide fully funded virtual certifications, targeting the skills demanded by the private sector.
