Mexico's opposition parties set candidate rules for 2027 elections

Movimiento Ciudadano (MC) said its internal process for selecting 2027 election candidates will be evaluated on territorial work and results from its “Casas Naranja,” but final decisions remain with the party’s national leadership, including the Comisión Nacional de Convenciones y Procesos Internos headed by Dante Delgado Rannauro. State coordinator Danae Figueroa Martínez affirmed there are no “compadrazgos” or purchase of candidacies, yet acknowledged that the ultimate selection will be made by a small group of national leaders.

Separately, the newly formed party Somos México announced it will accept both party members and unaffiliated citizens for its 2027 candidate roster. Representative Antonio García Conejo stressed that candidates must meet legal requirements and that party leaders will not run for office themselves. The party aims to rebuild public trust after its recent registration by the INE and indicated it may support independent candidacies such as the “La Sombreriza” initiative led by Uruapan councilwoman Grecia Itzel Quiroz García.
