Mexico's PAZ party overtakes PAN in membership count

During an extraordinary INE session on 25 June, the institute released official affiliation figures showing the newly registered Construyendo Sociedades de Paz (PAZ) party now has 335,400 members, surpassing the traditional right‑wing National Action Party (PAN), which reports 327,084 affiliates. The data also listed three other nascent parties—México tiene vida (296,181 members), Somos México (294,327 members) and Que siga la democracia (303,047 members)—bringing the total new‑party registrations to 1,465,466 affiliates.

PAZ, founded by former leader of the defunct Partido Encuentro Social and said to have links to Morena allies, achieved the highest membership among the new groups before contesting any election. Analysts note the shift reflects fragmentation of Mexico’s conservative base and could reshape the dynamics ahead of the 2027 elections, as the right‑wing vote becomes more dispersed among multiple emerging formations.
