Mexico's PRI seeks educational reforms and navigates political alliances

In Mexico, the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) is seeking increased resources to address educational gaps. The party is calling for higher budgets for schools, teachers, and academic programs. Ruben Moreira has criticized current educational policies, describing them as “criminal” and pointing to PISA test results as evidence of a need for better results rather than propaganda.

The PRI’s proposals include evaluating educational materials and programs, strengthening teacher support, placing the Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) in the hands of experts, and encouraging citizen participation.

On the political front, following recent presidential elections, the PRI and the National Action Party (PAN) are navigating a period of reinvention. While both parties have expressed a lack of compatibility in their post-election assessments, they are expected to collaborate on legislative agendas and potentially align for the 2027 electoral process. Meanwhile, Movimiento Ciudadano has maintained its independence, declining unity pacts with the PRI to preserve its own political viability.
