Mexico's Profeco issues World Cup consumer guide and tightens ticket‑sale monitoring
The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) released a special edition of the Revista del Consumidor dedicated to the 2026 World Cup, offering practical advice on consumer rights, safe travel, digital roaming, personal finance and even a detailed analysis of LED TV models to help shoppers avoid overspending during the tournament. The publication is available online and in libraries.
Profeco also announced that it continuously monitors platforms that sell tickets for large sports events. Head of the agency Iván Escalante told reporters that a protocol is in place to detect irregularities, issue demands for information and pursue legal action. Investigations into the ticket sales for the Pumas vs Cruz Azul final revealed that 63 % of tickets were sold physically, 31 % through a bank pre‑sale and 6 % online, and cooperation with authorities led to the arrest of 66 resale operators. The agency has opened proceedings against secondary‑market sites such as StubHub and Viagogo and is considering criminal complaints to protect consumers from speculative resale practices.
