Mexico's Profeco releases budget tips for safe summer vacations

The Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) urged Mexican families to plan a detailed budget before traveling for the summer vacation period. It recommended allocating specific amounts for transport, lodging, food, recreational activities and an emergency fund, and setting a daily spending limit to keep expenses under control.

Profeco warned consumers to be wary of unusually low‑priced offers and unauthorised travel websites, and advised responsible use of credit cards, monitoring account activity and carrying some cash for emergencies. The guidance cited data from the National Alliance of Small Merchants (ANPEC) showing that summer vacations in 2025 could cost up to 17,000 pesos per family. The recommendations were published in the Revista del Consumidor in collaboration with the National Commission for the Protection and Defense of Users of Financial Services (CONDUSEF).
