Mexico's PT party pauses alliance negotiations with Morena
Negotiations between the Labor Party (PT) and Morena regarding candidate selection for the 2027 elections have reached a standstill. Alberto Anaya, leader of the PT, stated that while the coalition is not broken, progress is stalled due to internal disagreements within Morena.
Anaya noted that the high number of aspirants in various states, such as 22 in Guerrero and 26 in Querétaro, has complicated the consensus-building process. He emphasized that the PT is waiting for Morena to resolve its internal factions and disputes before proceeding with formal agreements.
A significant point of contention involves Michoacán, where the PT maintains firm support for Senator Raúl Morón, asserting he won the internal survey. The PT has indicated it may support Morón independently if necessary. Additionally, Anaya raised concerns regarding the political persecution of PT member Gerardo Sánchez Zumaya, following the freezing of his family's accounts by the Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF).
