Mexican Deputy Pedro Vázquez Pushes AI Ethics Reform in Education Law
Deputy Pedro Vázquez González of the Labor Party (PT) has introduced a reform to article 30 of Mexico’s General Education Law. The proposal seeks to incorporate artificial intelligence and its ethical application into the curricula of the Nueva Escuela Mexicana, mandating standards for data protection, transparency and explainability in AI‑based teaching, learning and assessment tools.
The initiative highlights the current lack of specific regulations, which has led to uneven and discretionary AI use in schools, potentially lowering educational quality and creating uncertainty for teachers and students. By setting ethical and inclusive guidelines, the reform aims to personalise learning, improve research, and strengthen educational management while reducing digital and educational gaps. The bill has been referred to the Chamber’s Education Commission for further analysis.
