Mexico expands education aid: Beca Rita Cetina rollout and Chihuahua's second Mi Bolsa Escolar call

The municipal government of Chihuahua has opened a second registration window for its Mi Bolsa Escolar 2026 program, targeting public primary schools that missed the first round. Applications are accepted from 29 June to 2 July 2026 through the municipal website, with the aim of providing backpacks and school supplies to additional students and easing family expenses.

Nationally, the Beca Rita Cetina scholarship continues its rollout. The program delivers direct cash transfers of 2,500 pesos per primary student for uniforms and supplies, deposited to Bank del Bienestar cards. In Quintana Roo, Governor Mara Lezama presented 1,131 cards, noting that nearly 95 000 students will receive the support. Payments are scheduled to begin in August 2026, with a temporary pause in July‑August when schools are on break.

The Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) reported that more than 12.4 billion pesos have been allocated to scholarships for Oaxaca over the past two years, benefiting 824 586 children and youths through various programs, including the Rita Cetina scholarship and the Benito Juárez scholarship for secondary education.
