Mexico rejects foreign agent operations, cites constitutional limits
Mexican Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch has reaffirmed that the country's Constitution and laws prohibit the operational presence of foreign agents on Mexican soil. Speaking at the International Conference on Drug Control (IDEC) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Harfuch emphasized that while Mexico maintains a solid relationship with the United States based on shared responsibility and intelligence exchange, all security operations must respect national sovereignty.
Harfuch highlighted several security achievements under the administration of President Claudia Sheinbaum, including a 51 percent reduction in daily homicides, dropping from 86 to 42. He also noted the destruction of 2,700 laboratories and significant drug seizures, including 80 tons of cocaine at sea and approximately 500 tons of drugs in total.
Regarding organized crime, Harfuch cited the successful military operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco, which resulted in the death of CJNG leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as 'El Mencho'. Additionally, he reported the recent detention of 20 alleged members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) during simultaneous operations across Hidalgo, Jalisco, and Michoacán, involving the seizure of weapons, drugs, and vehicles.
