Mexico's Senate gears up for major legislative push with dozens of new laws

Senate President Ricardo Monreal announced that the upcoming legislative period, starting in September, will aim to pass at least 20 new laws. The proposed measures cover a wide range of issues, including reforms to copyright law and internet service provider liability, regulation of social media and artificial intelligence, an anti‑corruption package, animal welfare, indigenous and Afro‑Mexican rights, environmental protection, health‑care updates on drug use and overdose, migration and mobility reforms, and new rules on communications advertising.

In a separate report, PAN senator Enrique Vargas del Villar presented his second activity report, highlighting his involvement in 55 legislative initiatives focused on security, justice, housing, child protection, and the implementation of the US‑Mexico‑Canada Trade Agreement (T‑MEC). Vargas del Villar emphasized his role in key Senate committees and his participation in the Junta de Coordinación Política, underscoring a broader effort to strengthen the rule of law and institutional balance in Mexico.
