Mexico's SEP issues permanent appointments to 568 prefects

The Secretariat of Public Education (SEP) has issued definitive appointments to 568 prefects in Mexico City, representing sections 9 and 10 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE). During the ceremony, SEP head Mario Delgado Carrillo stated that current administration efforts have resulted in over 1.2 million permanent staff appointments and significant salary recoveries, including an 83 percent increase for basic education teachers and over 100 percent for support staff.

Additionally, the SEP addressed recent PISA results, noting that while Mexican students show high levels of teacher attention, there is a decline in reading and comprehension skills. Delgado linked this decline to intensive mobile device use and highlighted upcoming regulations. Starting November 3, new rules will restrict the use of cell phones and electronic devices in public and private primary and secondary schools, allowing their use only for pre-planned educational activities under teacher supervision.
