Mexico's Sheinbaum Blames US Far‑Right for Anti‑Government Campaign
Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum said a campaign against her administration is being orchestrated by far‑right sectors in the United States that are cooperating with Mexican ultraconservative groups. She stressed the effort is not directed by the Trump administration, citing a Department of Homeland Security statement that denied any special visa permits for the governors of Sonora and Tamaulipas. Sheinbaum claimed she has information supporting her view and warned that the misinformation aims to damage U.S.–Mexico relations ahead of Mexico’s November 2024 election and the 2027 presidential race.
She also referenced recent tensions, including accusations of U.S. interference, claims of drug‑trafficking links, and a reported CIA‑related road incident in Chihuahua. The president dismissed the alleged “fake news” and noted that opposition parties were invited to a dinner organized by the American Society, which she declined to attend, suggesting coordinated attempts to mobilize criticism of Mexico abroad.
