Mexico’s Sheinbaum expands women’s welfare, provides prison supplies

In Puebla, the state congress’s Gender Equality Unit used funds from a “Reciclatón de Aparatos Electrónicos” campaign to purchase cleaning and personal‑hygiene items for women held in correctional facilities. The donation was presented by Daniela Mier Bañuelos, head of the unit, with support from deputy Pablo Gaspar Ramírez and the NGO Mujeres Apoyando una Segunda Oportunidad. Organizers described the act as solidarity for incarcerated women and a reinforcement of their human‑rights protections.

In Michoacán, President Claudia Sheinbaum handed out cards for the newly created “Pensión Mujeres Bienestar” to beneficiaries in Quiroga, emphasizing that women are “the soul of the nation.” The program provides a monthly pension to women aged 60‑64, reaching 146,158 recipients in the state, and will be extended to all women over 65 through the broader Adult‑Aged Welfare Pension. Sheinbaum also announced the construction of a “Centro LIBRE” in every municipality (127 centres in Michoacán) and the distribution of a “Cartilla de Derechos de las Mujeres” to combat discrimination. The state governor praised the president’s policies.
