Mexico's SNTE monitors teacher promotion exam after platform glitch

The National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) said it is closely monitoring the USICAMM teacher promotion exam after a technical failure on 2 August. About 25,000 candidates in the first shift were mistakenly given a test intended for managerial positions. The error was detected and corrected at 10:00 a.m., prompting protests from participants.

The education authority allowed teachers to retake the exam that afternoon at 14:00 or to postpone it to 9 a.m. on 9 August. Union leader Alfonso Cepeda Salas urged teachers to continue the process to obtain salary incentives. Roughly half of the affected group completed the exam on Sunday, while 12,500 opted to reschedule. The exam involves nearly 400,000 teachers nationwide. The evaluating body also reported irregularities, including suspected identity fraud and cellphone use, which could lead to disqualification. Final results on salary increases are expected between August and October.
