Mexico's Social Tourism Program Takes 40 Seniors to El Chorrito in Hidalgo

Forty vulnerable seniors from Padilla, Tamaulipas, were taken on a free, state‑organized trip to Hidalgo, where they visited the main plaza, the Parish of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, the Ojo de Agua and the Virgen Monumental de El Chorrito. The outing was part of the Programa de Turismo Social, coordinated by the Tamaulipas tourism secretary Benjamín Hernández Rodríguez, Governor Américo Villarreal Anaya and the state DIF led by Dr. María de Villarreal. Participants received safe transport, meals and culturally adapted activities, aimed at promoting religious tourism and local heritage while fostering companionship among the seniors. Hernández Rodríguez said the program “allows the most vulnerable people to travel, learn and enjoy the beauties of Tamaulipas free of charge.”
