Mexico's SSPC Issues Guidance to Prevent Digital Violence

Mexico's Secretariat of Security and Protection Citizen (SSPC), through its Intelligence, Cyber Investigation and Technological Operations Unit, warned that certain internet pages masquerading as entertainment, social denunciation or news outlets are spreading defamation and other forms of digital violence. These sites disseminate false, biased or out‑of‑context information to tarnish individuals or companies and sway public opinion, a risk amplified by rapid content sharing and limited verification.

The SSPC outlined a set of recommendations for safe digital use: avoid sharing unverified content that could harm reputations; protect personal data and share it only with trusted contacts; configure privacy settings on social media; steer clear of profiles or pages whose authenticity cannot be confirmed; document abusive content with screenshots or other records; and report defamatory accounts or posts.
