Mexico's State of Mexico Human Rights Commission unveils study on online sexual violence

The State of Mexico’s Human Rights Commission (CODHEM) presented a new book, *Agresiones sexuales en línea. Incidencia y experiencia en el estudiantado durante el confinamiento 2020‑2021*, authored by Dr. Luz María Velázquez Reyes and Dr. Gabriel Renato Reyes Jaimes. The work draws on a survey of 6,952 secondary, high‑school and university students carried out during the COVID‑19 lockdown, documenting various forms of digital sexual aggression such as non‑consensual image sharing, harassment, extortion, grooming and other violations of privacy and dignity.

CODHEM president Víctor Leopoldo Delgado Pérez warned that the pandemic deepened reliance on digital platforms, exposing women, adolescents and gender‑diverse people to heightened online violence. He stressed that technology is not neutral and called for human‑rights‑based approaches to digital spaces, including stronger promotion, prevention, protection and education measures. Representatives from feminist collectives, civil‑society groups and academic institutions attended the launch, underscoring a shared commitment to raise awareness, support victims and transform normalized digital abuse.
