Mexican states launch financial aid programs for women with cancer

The governments of Jalisco and Michoacán have introduced new financial assistance schemes for women battling breast or cervical cancer. Jalisco’s “Sigamos Adelante” program, funded with an initial 40 million pesos, will provide up to 40,000 pesos per woman for treatment and 4,000‑16,000 pesos for diagnostic expenses. The first phase targets 1,200 women in 84 municipalities, with a plan to double the budget to 80 million pesos in 2027 and expand coverage to 2,400 women across 125 municipalities.

Michoacán’s parallel initiative offers a monthly stipend of 4,000 pesos to women with breast or cervical cancer and to families caring for children with cancer. Since its launch, 3,211 women and 829 caregiver families have received support, and treatment abandonment rates have fallen from 30 % to 10 % for women and from 30 % to 2 % for pediatric patients. The state has also earmarked 165 million pesos for a new linear accelerator and PET‑scan equipment.
