Mexico's State Security Secretariats Confront Abuse Claims and Over 1,000 Police Complaints

The Secretariat of Public Security of a Mexican state (SSPE) responded to a public complaint filed by former employees before the State Human Rights Commission (CEDH). Spokesperson Jorge Armendariz said the dismissals were due to contract expirations, denied having received any formal complaint, and pledged cooperation if the commission initiates an investigation.

The former staff alleged forced affiliation to the National Action Party, political campaigning duties, unpaid overtime, harassment by security escorts and threats that contracts would not be renewed for non‑compliance with a "1x5" recruitment scheme. They presented evidence of these practices to the CEDH, seeking protection and an inquiry.

In a separate report, the Secretariat of Public Security of Tamaulipas disclosed that it had received 1,011 citizen complaints against police officers over the past year. Of these, 267 were forwarded to the Police Development Council and 212 resulted in disciplinary sanctions, while investigations continue on the remaining cases. The agency urged the public to report misconduct, emphasizing internal oversight mechanisms.
