Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation reports first-year results and austerity savings

Hugo Aguilar Ortiz, presiding minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), presented the first annual report following the judicial elections. Aguilar Ortiz highlighted that the new Plenary has operated with austerity, saving over 4.7 billion pesos in its first year. He reported that the Court resolved 13,231 matters out of 15,051 jurisdictional files, achieving an 88 percent resolution rate. Upon assuming office, the administration identified significant backlogs, including 3,177 unaddressed motions and 18,038 pending secretarial reasons.

President Claudia Sheinbaum emphasized the reduction of privileges within the judiciary, noting that economic benefits for ministers have been cut by more than half. Specifically, monthly gross salaries decreased from 297,403 pesos to 186,485 pesos. Eliminated benefits include restaurant meal expenses, risk pay, medical support, and seniority incentives. While some costs like funeral expenses increased slightly, the administration continues to push for further austerity.

To increase transparency, the SCJN launched a new judicial statistics portal, allowing citizens to track the court's performance through verifiable and traceable data, moving away from previous manual and fragmented recording processes.
