Mexico's Supreme Court seeks legislative judicial reforms
Ministers of Mexico’s Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) are seeking legislative changes to the judicial system. President Claudia Sheinbaum reported that the ministers have approached the Presidency's legal counsel, Luisa Alcalde, to propose modifications to various laws.
While specific details of the proposed changes have not been disclosed, the President indicated that the requests involve the operation of the Judiciary and the Disciplinary Tribunal. These proposed adjustments would target existing laws rather than constitutional amendments.
This development follows the 2024 judicial reform that introduced the election of judges, magistrates, and ministers. Previously, the Senate approved a measure to postpone the judicial elections from June 2027 to June 2028.
