Tamaulipas Health Secretary Reports Second Human Botfly Case
Ricardo Guerrero, the newly appointed secretary of Health for Tamaulipas, confirmed that a second human case of infestation by the botfly (gusano barrenador) is under investigation. The first case was recorded in El Mante; both cases are reported as controlled and the health authority is working with the Secretaría de Desarrollo Rural to prevent further incidents.
The second patient, an 89‑year‑old resident of La Peña in the municipality of Miquihuana, received treatment at the Hospital General de Victoria. Officials urged residents to seek immediate medical attention for symptoms such as intense pain, inflammation, or foul‑smelling discharge.
Guerrero also highlighted a recent health operation at the Patinadero of the Adolfo Ruíz Cortines sports complex, where medical teams supported a public viewing of a Mexican national football match. The operation provided emergency care for the crowd, with authorities reporting no casualties.
