Mexico's Telecom Regulator Extends Mobile Line Registration Deadline

The Mexican telecommunications regulator, the Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones (CRT), announced that the deadline for registering prepaid mobile phone numbers will be extended, averting a planned suspension of lines on 30 June 2026. The extension assigns new cut‑off dates based on the last digit of each phone number, ranging from 15 August to 31 December 2026. Registration must link each number to a person’s name and CURP to combat fraud and extortion. So far, 63 million lines have been registered, including 40.2 million prepaid and 22.8 million post‑paid lines, the latter already tied to an individual. Users are instructed to complete the registration through their mobile provider, which will update the subscriber data accordingly. The CRT’s clarification assures that no mobile lines will be disconnected while the registration window remains open.
