Mexico's Tren Suburbano suffers electric failure, massive delays

On Thursday morning an electrical incident on the Tren Suburbano line between the Fortuna and Tlalnepantla stations halted train movements, causing severe delays for thousands of commuters in the Mexico City metropolitan area. The first convoy left at 6:15 a.m. but did not reach Buenavista until 7:50 a.m., and many passengers reported waiting up to two hours for a train to depart. Video and photo posts showed crowded platforms at stations such as Cuautitlán, Los Ágaves and Buenavista, with some riders forced to exit the trains and seek alternative transport.

Commuters described the slowdown as affecting the entire line, noting that trips that normally take about 45 minutes stretched to several hours. Users on social media urged others to choose different routes, citing repeated electrical failures in recent months that have eroded confidence in the service. The incident disrupted work, school and personal schedules, and prompted complaints about the impact on mental health, finances and overall quality of life.

The concessionaire issued a brief statement that it was working to restore normal service, while passengers called for more transparent communication and faster resolution of the recurring technical problems.
