Mexico's World Cup 2026 campaign features record-tying striker and heartfelt brother reaction

Mexico's national team was eliminated in the round of 16 at the 2026 World Cup after a 2-3 loss to England at the Estadio Azteca. Striker Julián Quiñones finished the tournament with four goals, matching the single‑edition record set by Luis Hernández in 1998 and equalling the total tally of Javier Hernández across three World Cups. His scoring made him a standout for coach Javier Aguirre despite the early exit.

Raúl Jiménez also contributed three goals – against South Africa, Ecuador and a penalty versus England – and his brother publicly expressed pride in his performance, calling the team's effort "like a movie" and saying the family was deeply moved by the achievement.

Both players were highlighted as bright spots in an otherwise disappointing campaign for the Tricolor.
