Mexico's World Cup preparation ramps up as Aguirre schedules nonstop training

Coach Javier Aguirre has set a rigorous work plan for the Mexican national team ahead of the World Cup, scheduling double training sessions from Tuesday to Thursday and eliminating rest days for players arriving from their clubs, despite FIFA’s recommendation of a 7‑15 day recovery period. The squad will travel to Puebla on Friday to inspect the Cuauhtémoc Stadium, the venue for their upcoming friendly against Ghana.

Former Mexican international and coach Ignacio Ambriz argued that the forwards selected for the tournament should be veteran Raúl Jiménez for his experience and young striker Armando “Hormiga” González for his form, rejecting the idea of using four attackers. He also praised veteran goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa while urging the inclusion of younger keepers such as the Chivas prospect Acevedo and the emerging talent Rangel.
