Mexico's Youth Sports Boost Community Ties in Zacatecas and Matamoros

The Government of Zacatecas, led by Governor David Monreal Ávila and the Institute of Youth (Injuventud), launched the GamersCup 2026, a digital football tournament that brought together 100 young participants aged 12 to 29. The event, part of the Agenda del Progreso, aimed to foster respect, cooperation and healthy social interaction through esports, with director Mauricio Acevedo Rodríguez noting that supporting youth recreation is a priority for the state.

In Matamoros, Tamaulipas, Mayor Alberto "Beto" Granados praised the Liga Matamoros A.C. for achieving the runner‑up position in the national Ángel Macías Barba 2026 small‑league baseball series. The tournament involved 14 delegations from across Mexico, and Granados highlighted the players' discipline and pride, stating, "Matamoros nunca se rinde," and reaffirmed the municipal government's commitment to sport as a tool for youth development.
