mFlusiva mRNA flu vaccine becomes available in Washington

A new mRNA-based flu vaccine called mFlusiva is becoming available in Washington. Utilizing the same technology used in COVID-19 vaccines, this shot is described as being superior to traditional flu vaccines.

Currently, mFlusiva is recommended for individuals aged 65 and older, though approval has not yet been granted for those in the 50 to 64 age range. Coverage varies, as it is only included in some Medicare plans. For those without insurance, the vaccine is estimated to cost approximately $171. Traditional flu shots remain available for those whose insurance does not cover the new mRNA version or for those unable to afford it.
