MG announces new plug-in hybrid and semi-solid battery strategy

MG has announced a new technological roadmap focused on plug-in hybrid vehicles, semi-solid state batteries, and autonomous driving systems. The rollout of these technologies is expected to begin progressively starting next year.

The first model to adopt this new propulsion system will be the MG ZS Plug-in Hybrid+. This architecture will utilize new 1.1-liter (98 CV) and 1.5-liter (161 CV) turbocharged gasoline engines. MG reports that these engines will achieve thermal efficiencies of over 42 percent and 43 percent, respectively.

Additionally, MG is introducing SolidCore battery technology, which is based on semi-solid state cells. These batteries, initially appearing in the MG 4 EV Urban, are intended for the future Plug-in Hybrid+ range. They promise higher energy density, faster power delivery, and improved stability at low temperatures or low charge levels. The technology will be featured in three new SUV families across the B, C, and D segments.
