MG Motor introduces battery rental service for Cyberster and M9 EVs
MG Motor has introduced a Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership model for its premium electric vehicles in India, specifically targeting the MG Cyberster roadster and the MG M9 luxury MPV. This scheme allows customers to decouple the cost of the battery from the vehicle purchase, significantly lowering the upfront showroom price.
Under the BaaS program, the MG Cyberster is available at an introductory price of ₹72.49 lakh, representing a reduction of approximately ₹10 lakh compared to standard ownership. The MG M9 MPV starts at ₹69.99 lakh, offering an upfront saving of nearly ₹10 lakh. In both cases, customers will pay a fixed battery rental fee of ₹8 per kilometer.
The model aims to make high-end electric mobility more accessible by reducing initial capital investment in depreciating battery assets. It also shifts concerns regarding long-term battery health and replacement costs from the owner to the service provider.
