MG Motor launches MG4 EV Urban electric hatchback in New Zealand and Europe

MG Motor introduced the MG4 EV Urban, a front‑wheel‑drive version of its compact electric hatchback aimed at city drivers. The model is equipped with a 120 kW motor, a 54 kWh lithium‑iron‑phosphate battery delivering up to 416 km (WLTP) and supports 150 kW DC rapid charging. In New Zealand it is priced from NZ$38,990 (including on‑road costs) and comes with a 10‑year/250,000 km warranty, a 12.8‑inch touchscreen, heat‑pump climate control and heated front seats.

A Czech road‑test highlighted the Urban’s longer body (439 mm) and larger boot space (up to 479 L) compared with the standard MG4, while retaining a hatchback silhouette. The review noted the digital i‑Smart app that enables a mobile phone to act as a key and control battery status, climate, and other functions. Interior touches such as a blue‑cyan front bumper trim and Cyberster‑inspired lighting were also mentioned, though the reviewer pointed out occasional software quirks and a softer rear suspension.

Overall, the MG4 EV Urban is positioned as an affordable, practical electric vehicle for buyers transitioning from conventional petrol hatchbacks, offering a blend of increased interior space, modern tech features and a competitive price point.
