MG offers car tax exemptions through 2027 for hybrid models in Italy
MG, the Italian subsidiary of SAIC Motor, has launched a promotion for its MG3 and MG ZS Hybrid+ models that covers car tax (bollo) payments through 2027. This commercial move anticipates a government decree (No. 162) intended to eliminate the car tax for certain petrol or diesel vehicles with thermal power not exceeding 80 kW.
The MG promotion specifically targets the Hybrid+ versions, which utilize a 1.5-liter petrol engine paired with an electric unit. Because the tax regulation measures only the thermal engine's power rather than the combined hybrid output, these specific models qualify for the exemption.
According to ACI guidelines regarding the broader national decree, the tax exemption for individuals will apply to renewals with ordinary payment deadlines falling in 2027. Payments due in 2026 remain mandatory in full. The exemption does not provide pro-rata refunds for amounts already paid in 2026, nor does it cancel existing arrears or penalties. Implementation details may vary in special regions and autonomous provinces depending on specific agreements with the State.
