Volkswagen confirms eHybrid electric mode limits in extreme cold

Volkswagen has acknowledged that its eHybrid vehicles cannot operate in 100% electric mode when temperatures drop below -10°C. The company stated that for electric driving to be fully functional, specific conditions regarding the temperature of the coolant and transmission oil must be met.

This technical limitation has led to consumer disputes, most notably in Sweden. The Swedish consumer organization ARN recently ordered a dealership to refund approximately 54,000 euros to a customer who purchased a Caddy eHybrid without being clearly informed that the vehicle would revert to combustion engine mode in extreme cold.

While Volkswagen maintains that these limitations are documented in the owner's manual, many owners have expressed frustration over a perceived lack of transparency during the purchasing process, noting that the information is not sufficiently prominent.
