MG to produce electric Go supermini in new Spanish factory
MG, the European brand of SAIC Motor, plans to launch the MG Go, an affordable electric supermini designed to compete with the Renault 5 E-Tech and Mini Cooper Electric. The vehicle, based on the E+ platform, is expected to feature a 43 kWh LFP battery and a 149-151 hp motor.
Production is slated to begin in 2028 at SAIC’s first European manufacturing plant located in Ferrol, Galicia, Spain. The facility represents an investment of approximately 200 million euros and is expected to have an annual production capacity of up to 120,000 vehicles, potentially creating over 2,000 jobs.
The MG Go aims to leverage a retro-futuristic design developed in London to appeal to the compact electric market. By manufacturing within the European Union, the brand intends to maintain competitive pricing—estimated around 20,000 to 24,000 euros—while avoiding potential tariffs on Chinese-made electric vehicles.
