MG unveils semi‑solid‑state battery Plug‑in Hybrid+ technology for 2027 launch

At its Tech Day in London, MG announced a new Plug‑in Hybrid+ system that will debut on the MG ZS in 2027. The powertrain combines turbo‑charged 1.1 L and 1.5 L gasoline engines with a semi‑solid‑state SolidCore battery that is about 95 % solid electrolyte. MG claims thermal efficiencies above 42 % and overall drivetrain efficiency over 40 % in roughly 90 % of real‑world driving conditions. Performance targets include 0–100 km/h in under six seconds, a 3.5‑second 80–120 km/h sprint and a 5 dB reduction in cabin noise. The system uses a new hybrid transmission that merges Power‑Split and Motor‑Decoupling functions to optimise power distribution and minimise losses.

MG also revealed advanced driver‑assist features: a next‑generation One Touch iAD parking system, the MG Pilot suite with Navigate On Autopilot for highway use (planned for 2027) and future city‑level NOA in 2028. The company is testing level‑4 robotaxi technology in Europe, the Middle East and China. Three new SUVs covering B, C and D segments and a D‑segment sedan will receive the Plug‑in Hybrid+ powertrain and SolidCore battery in subsequent model years.
