MG unveils Plug-in Hybrid+ with SolidCore battery and advanced ADAS

At its MG Tech Day in London, the automaker outlined a roadmap that will see the new Plug‑in Hybrid+ system launch on the MG ZS in 2027. The powertrain pairs turbocharged 1.1‑litre and 1.5‑litre gasoline engines with a hybrid transmission that uses Power Split and Motor Decoupling to optimise energy flow, delivering thermal efficiencies above 42 % and 43 % respectively and 0‑100 km/h acceleration in under six seconds.

The hybrid will be equipped with MG’s SolidCore semi‑solid battery, a 3‑D spinel‑type architecture that promises steadier power delivery, better low‑temperature performance and higher energy density. Three new SUVs covering the B, C and D segments will receive the battery and hybrid system.

MG also announced upgrades to its ADAS suite, including the One Touch iAD automatic parking system and the Navigate‑On‑Autopilot (NOA) feature slated for highway use at the end of 2027, with an urban version expected in 2028. Development is based on more than 1.2 million kilometres of real‑world driving data collected across 24 European countries. The company is testing Level‑4 robotaxi technology in Europe, the Middle East and China as part of its longer‑term autonomous‑mobility strategy.
