MGID and AdsKeeper accused of unauthorized health data collection

An investigation by Snoop has revealed that programmatic advertising companies MGID and AdsKeeper are collecting sensitive health data from internet users without consent. Although officially owned by Ukrainians, the companies are reported to serve Russian interests and operate using shared technical infrastructure and encryption certificates.

In Romania, these advertising networks have appeared on at least 117 websites, ranging from major news outlets like Realitatea TV and Adevărul to local platforms and conspiracy sites. The data collection is used to profile users and target them with fraudulent advertisements, including at least 23 false ‘miracle treatments’ specifically aimed at the elderly.

The investigation also highlighted that MGID's technology is active on Jigsaw Planet, a puzzle website used by Romanian teachers and recommended by European Commission educational platforms. Furthermore, MGID has been mentioned in Romanian prosecutorial documents related to the Georgescu-Potra case in connection with Russian oligarch Viktor Remsha. MGID has denied any ongoing links to Russia or AdsKeeper.
